Our first AGM…. amazing!

Picture8Thank you to everyone who came to our information day and AGM. We had over 75 people altogether with 60 staying for the AGM. You can read our first Annual Report 15-16 and find out all about what we have done, the people who have helped us, the organisations who have supported us and our fantastic funders.  You will also see our priorities for this year!

Access Bedford – our first year video

Some of our partners spoke including Cllr Henry Vann, Tim Long and Gayle Leeson from Bedford Borough Council children’s services, Emma Freda from Healthwatch Bedford Borough and a lovely BSL video message from Claire Jones from Bedford Association of the Deaf that you can watch here – Message from Bedford Association of the Deaf

It was great to have a video message from Sign Cafe too! Sign Cafe thanks to Access Bedford! Look for our youngest member who is 8 months!  We also shared the fantastic news that Bedford Association of the Deaf has made a big donation to help us keep going for the next 2 years of £9000. THANK YOU!!

Carla, Emma, Michelle and Peter were confirmed as non voting committee members as part of Access Bedford which is great news! Their application video is here or you can read the NVCM transcripts 2016.

We are a new Charity Incorporated Organisation with 3 trustees who can vote on decisions – Suzie Sampson as chair, Catherine Wright as treasurer and Alison Crook as Secretary. In our legal constitution is says they are the three voting trustees for 4 years from July 2015.

Our new priorities for 2016 are

Access Bedford Priorities for 2016/17

  1. sharing information with the Deaf Community
  2. running events with the Deaf Community
  3. improving services with and for the Deaf Community
  4. empowering the Deaf community to create and lead projects
  5. supporting services at every level to be Deaf Aware

Develop Access Bedford as a Charity

  1. Increase non-voting members
  2. Develop volunteer roles
  3. Create a sustainable governance structure
  4. Review policies
